More than 100 million animals are killed for their fur every year worldwide, on fur farms and trapped in the wild - that's like three animals dying every second just for their fur. Finland breeds and kills around 1-2 million foxes each year. Each year, fur farms in Finland export over 11 million pounds of fox fur to the UK.
Fox farming began in the 1930s, when people started capturing wild foxes for breeding. Through countless generations of selective breeding for color, size, fur quality, reproduction ability, docility, mothering ability, growth rate, and litter survival, farm-bred foxes have evolved vastly different from wild foxes. Supported by good nutrition, housing, and veterinary care, this has resulted in a larger, healthier, and much more docile animal.
