Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus
Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
Pleni sunt caeli et terra maiestatis gloriae tuae
Hosanna in excelsis.
Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini.
Hosanna in excelsis.

A 16-member special men’s vocal ensemble, consisting of former members of the Cathedral of Saint Peter Men and Boys Choir, sung the Sanctus under the direction of cathedral conductor Christian Heiss accompanied by cathedral organist Franz Josef Stoiber. This was done as part of the Pontifical Funeral High Mass for Reverend Monsignor Georg Ratzinger 7 July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

St. Peter's Cathedral is an example of vital Gothic architecture in eastern Bavaria, Germany. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Regensburg.

The construction of the cathedral began in 1280 and took a long time to complete. By the year 1320, the three choirs (space for the choir and the clergy) of the cathedral were ready for use. Between 1385 and 1415 the main entrance to the west portion was completed. By 1520, most of the cathedral was finished and, as such, services began.

In the 1600s, the cupola located at the transept’s crossing, along with other sectors of the cathedral, were renovated in a Baroque style. With this renovation, the frescoes that were created for the All Saints' Chapel were plastered over until being uncovered in the 1800s. Following this, between 1828 and 1841 the cathedral underwent a Neo-Gothic renovation, commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria. With this renovation the cupola was demolished and replaced with a quadripartite rib vault. Between 1859 and 1869, the towers as well as their spires were completed, and in 1872, the cathedral was completed.

The state-run Dombauhütte (cathedral building workshop) was founded in 1923, for the oversight, maintenance, and restoration of Regensburg Cathedral.

Christian Heiss, the current cathedral music conductor, studied church music and organ at Munich University (degree: church music A diploma and master class diploma) with Franz Lehrndorfer, among others. After working as a musical assistant at Eichstätt Cathedral, he worked as a church musician in Ravensburg. In 1999 he was the cathedral organist in Eichstätt. In the autumn of 2002 he was appointed to succeed Wolfram Menschick as Eichstätt cathedral conductor. He also held the office of diocesan music director and head of the office for church music in Eichstätt.

On 1 September 2019, Christian Heiss succeeded Roland Büchner as Cathedral Kapellmeister of Regensburg. Heiss is now the head of the Regensburg Domspatzen and thus returned to his former school.

After graduating from high school in 1979, Franz Josef Stoiber, the current cathedral organist, pursued his studies in church music and music theory at the University of Music Würzburg, and Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts. After working for three years as a full-time musical assistant at the cathedral in Würzburg and as a lecturer in music theory at the Würzburg University of Music, Stoiber accepted a call as a lecturer for organ and music theory at the University of Catholic Church Music and Music Education Regensburg, in 1989. On 1 March 1996, Stoiber was appointed cathedral organist in Regensburg. Since 1997 he has also been working as an organ teacher with the Regensburger Domspatzen. In 2003 he received a full professorship for organ at the Regensburg Church Music Academy, which he led as rector from 2003 to 2011, and again October 2023 to the present day.
