Dry eye is a multifactorial disease that affects the front surface of your eyes causing symptoms such as burning sensation in your eyes, forging body sensations, and burning sensation. Dr. Sarah Pinkhasov from Amplify EyeCare discusses different types of eye drops used for treating dry eyes. It is important to have a dry eye evaluation to understand what is causing your symptoms, as that will also identify the correct type of eye drops for you to use and the available treatment options. Over the counter artificial tears are used for milder cases of dry eyes but if you are using these daily then you may want to switch to the preservative free option. The use of lipid-based eye drops or gel may be required in cases of dry eyes that are a result of clogged meibomian glands or evaporative dry eye. Additionally, our eye doctor may prescribe prescription eye drops such as Restasis, Xiidra and Cequa eye drops.
