******** CORRECTION ********
I was testing out 2 bowden tube printers(V2 Neo and Ender-3) and 1 direct drive(S1), I mixed some clips when doing the final editing.
(08:14) The pressure advance factor of a direct drive should be 0.005, so if the perfect spot on the test model is 15mm (09:03), the pressure advance should be 15 * 0.005 = 0.075, so, the line adds to PRINTER.CFG should be pressure_advance: 0.075 (09:40).

16:36 Conclusions

Welcome back to Aurora Tech channel. Today, I will review the Creality Sonic Pad. As you may already know, most of our 3D printers use Marlin firmware. Marlin firmware was designed for 8-bit and 32-bit Arduino-based processors to run your 3D printer. The advantage is that almost every processor, even the ATMEGA2560 8-bit processor on the Prusa MK3S+, can work with Marlin pretty well. But the downside is the performance, especially the speed of your 3D printer, as it will be limited to the speed of the processor. Even an updated 32-bit processor that runs at over 100 Megahertz is still very slow when compared to a smartphone processor that runs at 1 to 2 Gigahertz with multiple cores.

So, a common way to improve the speed and print quality of your 3D printer is to install Klipper. 2-3 years ago before the pandemic, everybody could easily get a Raspberry Pi for $50 or less, making it the perfect hardware to run Klipper with. Even a $35 Raspberry PI 3 using a 1.2Ghz 64-bit processor was much faster compared to a 32-bit processor from 72 up to 168Mhz on a regular 3D printer. So, all the calculations are handled by the Raspberry and your old motherboard will just work as an adapter to control the stepper motors, heat cartridge, thermistor, and limit switches, simple jobs that are more suitable for an Arduino board to handle.

Besides the Raspberry PI, you also need a touch screen to install the Klipper screen as the controller. As your 3D printer’s screen will no longer be useful, some people just use a web interface so the 3D printer can operate without a screen.

Unfortunately, under the current global chip shortage, you can no longer get a Raspberry Pi at a reasonable price unless you are willing to buy one for $150-$200 from scalpers, or if you have one, you can use an old laptop or PC and install Linux to run Klipper, but this isn’t an easy fix for everyone.

So, this Sonic Pad will do the Raspberry PI’s job of running the Klipper firmware as well as working as an external touch screen to control your printer. It has the latest Creality printer firmware preinstalled, including the Ender-3 S1, S1 Pro, and the Ender-3 V2. I will test it on the latest Ender-3 S1, as well as an old stock Ender-3, and see if it is compatible with older printers. I would like to thank Creality for sending me this Sonic Pad for review, and with that, let’s get started.
