The underwater internet cable, though appearing large, is actually very small, comparable to a human hair. Coated with protective layers, these cables resist damage from earthquakes, water pressure, and other risks. This summary explores the process of laying these cables.

Internet growth is aided by undersea cable advancements. 97% of global data exchange happens through them. 235 systems cover 997,000 km. Ships and trenches help in installation.

Modern cables contain optical fibers, transmitting light for speeds up to 10 Gbps, outperforming copper's 300 Mbps. Making optical fibers involves shaping a glass rod or preform through MCVD, creating a core encased in glass.

The preform is split and turned into fibers via fiber draw. Coated, twisted, and layered, the cable is readied for the underwater world. It's protected by steel wires and copper, which powers repeaters.

Optical signals use lasers, needing repeaters every 80 km to maintain strength. Repairs are done using cutting and holding grapnels, followed by fusion splicing onboard ships.
