When St. Vincent’s record label offered me an opportunity to interview her - I said yes immediately - without thinking of how anxious I’d be every second after until the moment she entered the Zoom call. Not only is she one of the most inventive and highly respected musicians today, but on a personal level, her music’s been on the soundtrack of my life for the past decade. So there’s a lot riding on this right? What ended up happening next, I could never have predicted. My mic stand broke off, my light fell off the ledge - however, we ended up talking about gaming chairs lol, we dove deep into her craft and even discussed the state of LGBTQ+ rights in Singapore! We talked for more than 20 minutes, way more than what was initially offered to me.
