The story of the United States is one of justice and freedom, but the unspoken truth is too many people are shut out of equal opportunities because of their skin color. Racial healing is only possible by reckoning with the country’s dark, shameful history of white supremacy and acknowledging how past harms have shaped today’s reality for communities of color. Only then can we work to build a society that elevates equity for all.

In April 2023, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation convened a health equity summit in St. Louis, where we invited attendees to share with us their thoughts on racial healing. This video is a compilation of just a few of the thoughts, ideas, and reactions expressed by participants on transforming the systems and policies that act as barriers to ensure everyone has a fair and just opportunity for health and wellbeing.
