The Slormancer is a new Action RPG (ARPG) making waves in the indie scene. While it will no doubt be immediately compared to titans like Diablo and Torchlight, Slormancer takes a slightly different approach than these games and tries to do something a little more unique. The game's focus is clearly on its mechanics and inner systems with the highly customizable skill system being the gem of the initial early access launch. Across the 3 unique classes there are over 2 dozen unique skills each with handfuls of modifications to tweak the existing skills into exactly what the player wants. Slormancer also boasts of a sub class system, attribute points, dozens and dozens of weapons and an entire secondary skill system that is shared among the classes. Clearly there is a dizzying amount of content for customization.

The biggest drawback of the game however, is that the basic combat and enemy varieties are both sub par. While the enemy variety should be an easy fix for an early access game, the lack of interesting combat controls may be a more difficult issue. Adding additional controls/features like a dash may help this issue, but I'm not entirely sure if that is something possible in Slormancer. I'll be waiting during this early access time to see if the developers chose to address this issue and how that manifests.

Overall I think this is a solid early access title that people should take a long hard look at. Clearly the clothes the creators have given the game are something that need to be grown into, but they're some pretty nice threads.
