Kitchens are one of the most popular types of spaces captured with Canvas. In general, you can use the fence painting technique, but there are a few additional tips about scanning typical kitchen features you should know.
Many kitchens contain islands, which you’ll want to include in your scan and CAD file.

We recommend slowly walking between the wall of the kitchen and the island. Instead of standing perpendicular to the wall, as you typically would, we suggest standing parallel to the wall and moving your device in a J-shape, where the long side of the J represents the wall and the short side represents the island.

Stainless steel appliances are popular, but also highly reflective, which can introduce errant geometry to your scan.

When scanning kitchens with stainless steel appliances, try to avoid scanning the appliance head on. Instead, aim your device at the area where the appliance meets the walls or cabinetry. That will provide enough information for your scan and CAD file.

We know every kitchen is different, so if you have any questions about capturing a kitchen, please reach out to [email protected].
