Lalo, in the north-western Hawaiian islands, is where almost all the world’s black-footed albatross hatch. But up to 10% of young birds will be lost to hungry island visitors: tiger sharks. In June and July, when young birds practice flying, tiger sharks are lured to these tropical waters by the promise of food.
