It’s perfectly normal to have a fear of losing someone you love. None of us knows what – if anything – is the other side of death’s door. But we do know that if someone we love was to no longer be with us, we’d be upset and probably stricken with grief.

It’s not good when the time comes for one our loved ones to pass away.

Sometimes there are warning signs, other times it’s almost instant.

But the worry – especially when events in the news get our focus – can be even worse.

So, what can you do to get over the fear of losing someone you love?

Start by being as focused in the present as you can be.

If the person you’re worried about still has most of their faculties, enjoy your time with them and make sure that you spend the maximum practical amount of time in each other’s company. If you’re miles apart, Skype or FaceTime can be a good substitute (or an old fashioned phone call if the other person isn’t techie)

Next, stop trying to control something you can’t control. None of us can control the future and death is definitely not something we can take control of. I’ve lost friends and loved ones – some near the end of a normal lifespan, others cut short way too early for anyone’s liking. But worrying about that happening again won’t make a difference to whatever outcome happens. Because it’s not under my control. One friend who died recently had only tapped on my car window and said “see you soon” a week before he passed. Neither of us could have foreseen that or changed the outcome of the blood clot.

Living life in the moment is something we should all do more of. It’s way too easy to dwell on the past or worry about umpteen possible futures, most of which won’t happen. So make a conscious effort to spend more of your life in the here and now and less of it worrying about lots of “what if’s”.

Another thing is to focus on the positives while the other person is still here for you to interact with. If you’ve done all you could possibly do with the other person, there’s a lot less room for regret when they do pass away.

And do your best to make sure you stay on good terms with all the people who matter in your life. You wouldn’t want the last thing you did with them was to have an argument that can never be resolved if your worst fears come to pass.

All in all, it’s best to be as positive about the future as we can be.

If that’s still something that’s worrying you, check out the hypnosis track linked below this video.

It’s specially written to help you overcome your fears and worries about losing a loved one and will help you enjoy your (hopefully long) time with them.
