Dandy Ace has captured my attention as my latest favorite rogue lite game. It does this by borrowing fairly heavily from its predecessors and then sprinkling new innovation into some core mechanics which hits far more often than it misses. While at first glance the game does resemble Hades in form, the game bares almost no similarity in function. The rogue lite mechanics in the game far more closely compare to Dead Cells, with only the isometric layout of the game appearing like Hades. Here though the theme of the game is magic and that theme is consistent throughout. The game is on message and on theme to a fault with some of the level design feeling a little too "samey" for my tastes. Players that can see past this mild speed up will be treated to a dynamic combat system the inspires creativity long after many of the other aspects of the game have lost their luster. For this reason I think many players will enjoy Dandy Ace all the way through its four playthrough difficulties and twisting multi-chamber dungeon structure.
