The third-party cookie’s demise stands to disrupt companies’ first-party relationships with site visitors.

While third-party cookies are used by companies to track people across sites they don’t own, they are also used by companies to connect audiences across their own sites. So, as part of its Privacy Sandbox set of post-cookie proposals, Google has offered up Related Website Sets as a way for companies to connect cookies across sites — albeit with a number of limitations, as Digiday senior media editor Tim Peterson breaks down in this video.
