Japan has a vast, dependable transportation network. But a little-known aspect is the overnight sleeper bus system. Despite living in Japan for years, I rarely hear about them and had never taken one myself. So, I righted that wrong and bought a ticket into the unknown: ten hours in a bus seat going 750 kilometers (466 miles) from Sukagawa, Fukushima Prefecture across Japan to Osaka.

I had no idea what to expect. What I found was, well, not a great night of sleep, but in many ways, a great night nevertheless...
