The F430 was a step change for Ferrari when it came out. The chassis may have been a development of the Alcoa built aluminium item used in the 360, but the engine was a brand new unit - putting out 490hp and 343lb ft of torque - massively up on the old Dino-based V8.
Today the F430 seems something of a bargain, and is also the last mid-engined V8 you can buy with a manual gearbox, but today I'm testing the much cheaper and more common F1 car to see just what it's like and whether for £70,000 it is the supercar bargain to buy.
