The composer of, “Sal y Luz, Luz y Sal,” is Maximiliano Larghi.

The song is sung by the choir of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Cordoba, Argentina, which is also nicknamed the Church of the Capuchins (first Franciscan order of religious men).

The lyrics in Spanish and English are:

Luz del mundo,
deja de ocultarte en lo profundo.
Sal de la tierra,
cuida tu sabor, nunca lo pierdas.

Light of the world,
Do not hide deep inside me
Salt of the earth,
take care that you never lose your taste.

Ayuda a tus hermanos,
que el mundo necesita de tus manos.

Announce the Word
It is Life that speaks with works.
Help your brothers
Because the world needs your hands

Sal y luz, luz y sal.

Salt and light, light and salt.
Mixed among the people is Jesus in the city.
He will show the truth
There will be no night in your life,
Your life will always be an awakening.

Light, as you illuminate,
the city cannot be hidden.
As excellent salt,
looking up at the sky, your feet are in the present.

And although you may stumble,
don't forget Jesus fell three times.
Stand up and walk,
that with your walk the world lights up

Sal y luz, luz y sal.

Salt and light, light and salt.
Mixed among the people is Jesus in the city.
He will show the truth
there will be no night in your life,
your life will always be an awakening.

Si al cielo caminas tu amor ilumina,
Si al cielo caminas tu amor ilumina.
Si al cielo caminas tu amor ilumina,
Si al cielo caminas tu amor ilumina,

If you walk toward Heaven, your love illuminates
If you walk toward Heaven, your love illuminates
If you walk toward Heaven, your love illuminates
If you walk toward Heaven, your love illuminates

Sal y luz, luz y sal.

Salt and light, light and salt.
Mixed among the people is Jesus in the city.
He will show the truth
there will be no night in your life,
your life will always be an awakening.

Maximiliano Larghi was born into a nominal Catholic family, as is often the case in Argentina--- people who culturally have religious issues incorporated, but there has not necessarily been an encounter with Jesus Christ. So, there is something very positive, which is cultural, but something negative, which is the lack of a relationship with God.

“I was born in the Traslasierra Valley, Córdoba, where the mission of Rev. Fr. Brochero (1840-1914), the first saint in Argentina, was from. In that place, to this day, repercussions of his evangelization are seen after 4 or 5 generations. A great-aunt of mine who had been a nun began to talk to me about Jesus. She loved to tell me stories about the saints and she would make us pray. At home my mom was the one who had the most faith, but her faith was no more than going to Mass on Sundays and talking to us about religious values. My great-aunt had Jesus in her everyday life and she passed it on to me. I remember that once she could not open the door with the key and she began to pray and it opened... she was a woman with Jesus very present.”

“When I was 15 years old, I was invited to make a retreat with the Society of San Juan and join the Fragua group, and that was my first encounter with Jesus Christ.” Maximiliano was confirmed a few months before that and said he’s sure the Holy Spirit set everything up there. He clearly remembers it, “it was a Sunday in May and it was cold, at noon the sun came out a little and it was warm... it must have been at eleven o'clock. That noon I found myself enveloped by the love of Jesus and I had a very sincere, very intimate prayer with Him. After that day a story began. I like to say that Jesus was winning battles in my life, as it is, we are all always in a process.”

The video is dedicated to the past and present parishioners of the Church of Saint Joseph; Church of Saint Barbara; and the Church of Saint Mary, all of Massillon, Ohio, U.S.A. which have been combined to form the Divine Mercy Parish.
