I was asked over the weekend whether the lights I recommend would be ok for glasses wearers, as they’d heard that ring lights were no good.

So let’s look in this video at how to light ourselves when we wear glasses.

Let me say first that it’s not about the type of lights as much as the position of them. It doesn’t matter whether you’re using a ring light, an LED panel, a soft box, or even a window, if it’s in front of you it will be seen in your glasses.

So what’s the solution?

Here are 6 steps you can take to reduce the problem:

1. Move the lights to the side.

2. Don’t look at the lights

3. Avoid facing a window

4. Lift the ambient light in the room

5. Get glasses that reduce reflection

6. Use a camera rather than your webcam

Well there you go let me know which tip was most useful.

Your computer screen can be just as big a problem, and typically it will put a blue colour on your face that’s not flattering. If you need it in front of you, do as I do and take the screen brightness down as much as possible when you’re filming.
