In this video I show you how to take a large piece of natural veg tan tooling leather and turn it into a dyed and finished piece of leather ready to work with. Smaller items can be easily dyed with a dauber but once you get into several square feet at a time it's better to follow these steps.

It's generally easier and neater in most cases to prepare leather this way before starting a project rather than trying to make something and then dye it afterwards.

This kind of dyeing is a necessary process for most hobbyists or small businesses who are unlikely to have the space and money needed to keep a large variety of weights and colours of leather in their workshop.

Products show in the video were:

1. Water (for flattening)
2. Scotch magic tape (for mounting)
3. Fiebings black professional oil dye (to colour)
5. Fiebings 100% pure neatsfoot oil (for oiling)
6. Fiebings carnauba cream (for grain side polishing)
6. Seiwa Tokonole (for flesh side sealing)
