Hey All

Dr Drainz here, of Apple Drains in Raleigh North Carolina. IN a continuation from our previous video on the estimate of a French Drain, we are going to estimate the slop of the yard.

So we are going to start to find out how much drop we have to make sure we have enough slope. I have our rotary laser set up (which is able to give a 360 degree level measurement). Let's find out what the reading is here close to the start of the house. We are at three feet ten inches, which is our first mark right here which is our benchmark and gives us a starting point.

We have now moved down to where we want the water to exit, which is called "daylight". In this case it is a drainage ditch that the builder had built on this property that leads out to a creek. Its a wonder spot for us to have the French drain water exit.

The drop was was nine feet and one inch which gave us about five feet of drop to the bottom of the ditch and we are going to daylight at the bottom of the ditch. We have about a four foot drop from one end of the property to the ditch, which is a very steep grade.

In the last video we learned about how to slope. We have plenty of slope here, and I don't know how contractors can come out here and look and just guess the slope. Laser measuring doesn't lie! If someone comes out and gives you an estimate for a drain, ask them how the definitively know it is going to drain!? You can't drain uphill! A French drain you an can drain fairly flat, but if we are pulling water from off a house and from an HVAC condensing pipe, it has to leave. Otherwise it is going to sit in the trench, fill up, and go no where!

We, at Apple Drains of North Carolina, have the tools to do a correct estimate. Every estimate we go on, we will pull out the laser measurement and we will make sure its right!

Thanks For your Time
