Do you have an old 27" iMac from 2009 and You know it's not worth much to sell it but it still Functions just fine! Well that's the exact same position I found myself in. I wanted to come up with a solution to utilize my iMac and not have it be a giant paper weight. I'm also pretty attached to my Macs and id rather just keep them than sell them.

In this video you will see how Purchasing a $15.00 Cable from Amazon gave my old Imac a new life purpose! It's very easy, quick and straight to the point.

We will Turn Our 2009 - 27" iMac into an external Display using our 2020 13" M1 Macbook Pro! No need to invest in a new Monitor that can be costly when you already have one.

If this video helped you I would LOVE to know please leave me a comment below.

Model Number for 2009 27" iMac is A1312
Model Number for Late 2020 M1 13" Macbook is A2338

Also please take note this will NOT work with 21.5" or 24" Imacs those Imacs might have the display port but they are not Equipped with the “target Display mode” built in, and from what I can tell anything before 2009 has a different port on the backside. So without that Feature you can not access the plug and play option like a show in the video.

Also I just want to reiterate the way I show this working in my video is for a LATE 2009 27" I-mac with the “target Display mode” Built in. This way does NOT require you to use the Cmd F2 option, in fact that will NOT work with my model of computer. I'm sure this works with other Models and how they were configured. All you need to do is follow the instructions in the video and it's plug and play no special requirements.

If you would like to see my other video using the 2018 Macbook Pro 15.5" Model # A1990. Here is the link.
