You’re looking for a brand new compact crossover but you’re on a budget and don’t want to break the bank on some $50,000 SUV. No worries! Nissan’s Kicks starts at a cool $22,000 for 2023 and the fully-loaded SR model we tested tops out at just over $27,000.

For that money you get a good-looking, safe, reliable crossover with features like heated leather seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plenty of safety tech, and room for tall adults and their cargo. The four-cylinder engine may not be turbocharged like some of the Kicks’ rivals but it still gives you plenty of horsepower and pep, and the CVT gearbox has been refined over the years to give you great performance and fuel efficiency.

The only downsides to this Kicks are the fact that it’s front-wheel-drive only (no optional AWD) and Nissan took the cheap route on the base model to save some money.
