Islam in America may haved looked very different were it not for Imam Muhammad Jawad Chirri. After studying in Najaf, he was the only cleric at the time to purposely immigrate to the United States in order to cultivate a community and build a mosque. Dealing with American-born Shia Muslims - many of whom were cultural and took on Christian-like religious tendencies - this is the story of perhaps one of the most influential Shia Muslim clerics in American history.
