Keeping batteries charged up in idle trucks, vans and cars saves time and money. But it’s easier said than done when outlets aren’t close by. That’s where solar comes in. I built a roof mount for Battery Tender’s 15-watt solar charger (#021-1165) that keeps the dual batteries on a 1997 F-350 charged up and ready to go. To keep from drilling through the metal roof on the pole barn I used neodymium magnets and clamps to keep the panel secured. This also allows for portability so the panel can be used elsewhere or taken down prior to tough storms. (We went through Hurricane Michael, so we’re a little storm leery on this end). Two months later and the panel continues to keep the truck and the four-wheeler charged up.
