We got a closer look at the 175 diesel gallon equivalent compressed natural gas (CNG) system—Momentum's biggest yet—that Hyliion CEO and founder Thomas Healy said puts their Hypertruck ERX far ahead of electric trucks that don't have nearly the range or hauling power of their hybrid tractor. Plus, when fueled on renewable natural gas, their roughly 7-liter engine comes out smelling like a rose with a negative carbon score that leaves electric far behind. ERX will roll out first in a Peterbilt 579 (shown above).
2/23 UPDATE: Competition could heat up for Hyliion following Cummins' acquisition of their eAxle provider Meritor.
