So guys as we predicted on RBR, this is the new #MercedesAMG #E53 4Matic+, and it’s powered by the updated 6 cylinder that we saw in the gorgeous CLE 53! But here it’s far more powerful with up to 612BHP thanks to the hybrid system. That means an electric motor and battery pack, giving us both power and 100km of electric only range!!

The Design is impressive - it’s designed more like the E63 used to be, than the E53 series was. That means we have a wider track with flared arches, and increase of 11MM per side. The front is an all-AMG front end, with Illuminated AMG grille as standard on all models. The lower bumper is also completely new for the e53, with much more aggressive #AMG intake design.

There’s more too - 21inch new mulit-spoke style wheels debuting here, bigger AMG sills, a new side wing with AMG grille, and typical Quad pipes and diffuser on the rear. All in all, a no holds barred AMG design. The E53 Wagon/Estate is here too, in a base spec with chrome trims. Our saloon has an AMG dynamics pack that we will explain in the vide.

The new E 53 4MATIC+ uses an upgraded version of the 3.0-litre M 256 inline six-cylinder turbo engine. The facelift of the engine is designated M 256M has 20HP more at 450HP, then we have the Hybrid side! Which takes it further with a permanently excited motor inside the transmission giving 135HP more power, and 480nm torque! So that’s a total of 585BHP, 750NM and a 0-60 of 4.0.

But get the AMG Dynamic Plus Pack - and this is improved to 612 on Race Start, and 0-60 of 3.8!!

The benefit of that system, is the battery. 28kw in size, 21kw usable: it can give up to 100km all electric range. This is a figure become more and more important to buyers, as interest in EVs begins to dry up worldwide. You have the usual D+, D and D- driving modes from the EV cars too. But then the car weighs 2.4 tonnes thanks to the hybrid system - let's see if it’s worth the penalty in the future.

4Matic Plus means 100% variable power between the front and rear, with an Electromechanical clutch control controls power between the front and rear axles. Sadly, no drift mode in this, even with the additional dynamic plus pack!

Suspension wise, we have a Wide track independent front suspension and a modified stiffer rear frame. Of course this is the AMG ride control suspension, with an extremely sporty spring/damper set up and 2 valve damping at each wheel, for rebound and compression. Should make it both comfortable and sporty! Particularly with rear axle steering of up to 2.5 degrees

The brakes are clever too: they feature an Electromechanical brake servo, which combines normal braking with recuperation for the EV battery up to 120kw worth!

The interior is amazing, New AMG bucket seats, AMG specific driver and middle screens, and a super cool AMG only wood trim with illuminated logo in the standard screen set up.

The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package is a must have for the serious enthusiast: Along with the faster Race Start, we have an E Diff, active engine mounts, larger brakes and an upgraded steering wheel.

Today we will also compare this to the old E53 of 213 gen, the old E63, and look at the market rivals like the new BMW 5 series.

Generally, it’s a huge leap forward, but is this partly because we won’t be getting an E63? So far not a single mule has been spotted, and zero talk from insiders other than whispers of a return in a future facelift. My prediction? A V8 could come back eventually, but for now we have a very handsome hybrid as the top of the range car.
