Technology changes with time and the science behind metal casting keeps improving. The future of the UK cast metals industry will depend upon bringing new technology to the industry that is suitable and adaptable to existing plants and buildings. Analysis of how molten metal moves in moulds and dies had changed considerably over time and continues to evolve with simulation being able to predict and match the reality of casting issues.

This webinar, delivered to the West Midlands, Birmingham and Coventry Branch of the ICME on Monday 3rd 2022 by Simon Olive of Maxima Engineering gave members an educational and highly informative review as to what happens when molten metal is casting into moulds and how the design of moulds and the control of the flow of metal in to them is critical for helping prevent numerous types of defects that can impact on both the visual appearance and technical performance of castings.
