I noticed this Half Cake trend on TikTok and Instagram here in Japan, and thought it looked really easy… but I ended up finding a way to mess it up! It was a pretty hot day and the whipped cream started to melt as I was decorating, and the cake itself fell over! But never mind, it was still a super tasty snack

最近流行ってるハーフケーキトレンドをやってみました!すごい簡単だと思ったのに、結局色々失敗しました(笑)。その日は暑かったのでクリームが溶けてしまって、ケーキが倒れちゃいました!!でも、やっとできたら美味しかったですよ!

Ingredients for this half cake:
1 ichigo special (or any sponge base, see notes below)
Whipping cream 200ml
Sugar 1 tbsp
Vanilla essence, few drops

How to make this trending half cake:
1. Make the whipped cream by combining cream, sugar, vanilla essence, and whisking until soft peaks form. Do not bring this to stiff peaks, as once you put it in the piping bag the air will make it even stiffer and a weird texture on the cake.
2. Put the cream into a piping bag.
3. Put the halved sponge or ichigo special on its side, then add a layer of flat cream.
4. Decorate with the piped cream and chocolate to your liking!

Sponge cake:
If you don’t have access to the strawberry special (“ichigo special”) that you can find in Japan, use a normal sponge base and cut it in half. You can sandwich in some strawberry jam and whipped cream for extra fun flavours!

ハーフケーキの材料:
いちごスペシャル(またはスポンジとジャム)1個
生クリーム 200ml
砂糖 大さじ1
バニラオイル 少々

作り方:
1. ホイップクリームを作る。生クリーム、砂糖、バニラオイルをあわせて、ふわっとするまで泡立てる。
2. ホイップクリームをアイシングバッグに入れる。
3. いちごスペシャルを横に立てて、薄くてクリームを塗る。
4. アイシングバッグで飾りして、チョコレートをのせて完成!
