About this video: First impressions of the 2015 BMW M4 in Yas Marina Blue from CarMax were pretty intense. At first, it felt like the car had so much power that it seemed there was a monster under the hood waiting to be unleashed. So what exactly were our first thoughts on the BMW M4 F83? Let's talk about it!

One of the first things we noticed is that the BMW M4 has a completely different transmission setup than the 428i - a car we've been used to driving for the past 4 years. Over the years, we've had two BMW 428i's and one BMW 528i - both of which were fantastic cars, but nothing close compared to the M4 (obviously). The gear selector in the M4 was certainly something we had to get used to over time. It isn't nearly as intuitive as their standard 8-speed ZF transmission; however, it provides for fantastic gear shifts and makes the car stand out a bit more from the standard BMW 4-Series.

On top of that, everything else also seems to feel completely different than the BMW 428i M-Sport that we were used to. The interior quality on the 2015 BMW M4 is a solid few steps higher quality than the 428i. We were both concerned at first that the interior (short of the gear selector) would be the same quality leather and plastics. However, we couldn't have been more wrong. The M4 has such a better interior quality. From leather to carbon fiber to higher quality plastics, everything feels a lot better quality than the standard 4 Series.

Another strange thing we noticed nearly right away was "the bulge" in the hood of the M4. Unlike the 428i, the M4 has a bulge where the engine is, just like many other M-cars. It's a great touch that makes the BMW M4 feel quite a lot more muscular. It's by far one of our favorite touches on the M4.

Another upgrade to the interior was the Harmon Kardon sound system in the M4. Gone are the days of low-quality audio from our 428i. We can finally listen to music at a quality level that we can enjoy. It's a small detail, but it makes a huge difference for daily driving a BMW M4 F83.

Then, there's the topic of the exhaust on the BMW M4. We had heard many complaints from people stating that the prior generation M3 had a much better exhaust note than the M4 F83; however, it's not something we had noticed at all. With the top down on the F83 M4 model, the exhaust sounds fantastic. In fact, I would argue that in some ways, the exhaust on the 2015 BMW M4 sounds better than the exhaust on our 2011 Aston Martin Vantage.

When you turn on M-mode and the exhaust valve opens, the car sounds like a symphony of evil as it drives by. The exhaust on the BMW M4 crackles, pops, and bangs, and it sounds truly amazing. It's by far our favorite feature of the BMW M4 compared to the 428i.
