Kristine's plan was a water birth at a birthing center. When the big day came, her birth did not go at all how she expected, and she ended up delivering her baby at home, with the help of her doula. Her midwife arrived shortly after the baby was born to cut the umbilical cord and do a thorough assessment of mom and baby. Luckily, everyone was safe and healthy!

Kristine: The contractions were getting very close. I was like we have to go to the birthing center now because I felt her right there.

Elizabeth: And then I finally got a hold of someone and told them we're on our way. And I told them, get the tub ready because she wanted to have a water birth.

Lorri: And from my assessment on the phone, I thought, you're not going to make it. I did not want this mama stuck somewhere having her baby on the freeway.

Elizabeth: All right, Dean, turn around. We're having a home birth. And we turned around, Kristine is like “What?”

Kristine: At that point, I was kind of like, I freaked out a little bit because I wasn't planning on having a home birth, but I knew it could happen.
