When the Guardian published a list of the top 20 Strokes songs in 2022, anything other than 'Last Nite' at number 1 might have felt a bit wrong...

It's probably the only Strokes song your mum knows and is still played on rock radio stations all the time. It's immediately catchy, uplifting without being saccharine and showcases all the elements that made (makes?) The Strokes so great.

In this video, I get into why Gordon Raphael was blown away during the 'Last Nite' recording sessions, which famous song the band admitted to ripping off, why Julian grew sick of playing it live and how the song perfectly encapsulates their enduring appeal.

I saw the Strokes twice, in 2004 and 2006 and memories of them playing it whilst the sun was setting at T in the Park has always stayed with me.
