The Jubilee Suites History Series is offered here in response to our guests' desire to know more about the history of Fairhope, AL and the surrounding area. A joint project between Jubilee Suites and Dean Mosher explores some of the pivotal moments in Mobile, AL and Fairhope, AL history that have shaped the culture of our area.

In this Part 4 video, Dean Mosher, America's historical artist, local Fairhope, AL resident, castle-builder and storyteller, relates his personal experience at the federal trial of two Ku Klux Klansmen which exposed for the first time the fascinating inner workings of the Klan. Dean was a court artist for NBC News at the time so from his front row seat at the trial, he tells the tragic story of the lynching and hanging of a black student, Michael Donald, and the trial of his Klan murderers. Michael had the misfortune to cross paths with the Klan one evening as he was waiting for a ride and was killed in revenge for a completely unrelated incident involving a white woman and a black man getting married.

Michael Donald was the last black man lynched in America.
