The hips take on a major role in both cycling and daily activity. This ball-and-socket joint connects the leg (or femur bone, more specifically) to the trunk (or pelvis). You need this joint mobile in order to produce power and speed through your pedal stroke and to help maintain low back stability. That also requires the muscles that surround the hip to do their jobs well in moving the hips through full ranges of motion, in all directions, with strength and force.
That’s precisely why you need a hip-strengthening workout on your schedule to prep your muscles for all the work they take on as you pedal, stand, walk, run, or simply move about your day.
