Every lawn care market worth being in is saturated to some extent. For example, if you were in a market where there are not many lawn companies, chances are you’re in a rural area without much development, and frankly that would be a bad place to be. If I really wanted to do lawn care, and that was the market I was in, I would move. Flat out. Sometimes that’s the only option, BUT it sounds like you have the opposite problem.
But if there’s a lot of companies in your area, that’s actually a very good sign. Number 1: It means there’s enough work to keep a lot of companies busy. There probably wouldn’t be so many lawn care companies if there was not enough available room in your market. To me that’s a good sign.
Number 2: The truth is, most lawn care companies are just not very good. And by “Not Good” I mean there are a lot of guys that just don’t show up consistently, they are not very good with customer service, they drop the ball when clients need extra services done, etc etc etc. This presents an incredible opportunity IF you are willing to do some guerilla marketing with 5 arounds and door knocking. (PLUG FOR MARKETING VIDEO SPEAKING TO THE PAIN POINTS OF CLIENTS ALREADY BUYING THE SERVICE).
I’m going to tell you a secret: Those big lawn care companies in your market that are dominating the search results on Google, and they have really good brand awareness because they’re big, and they’ve been around forever… They may do a good job of getting new clients in the door, but most do a very poor job of keeping the back door closed.
ATTRITION. Meaning, many of those companies get so many new leads that they don’t have to work on keeping all those clients happy!
One day their lawn service is not going to show up, and if you’ve been in front of them with some marketing material then you’re going to get your shot. I can’t tell you how many times I’ll be servicing a client’s lawn only to have their neighbor walk up to me and say they haven’t heard from their lawn company in 3 weeks and they are frustrated and wanting to get on my schedule. Happens all the time. Set yourself apart. Offer great customer service. Show up in a lettered or wrapped truck. Wear a uniform. Be professional. Do GREAT work. NEIGHBORS TALK. If you do great work, and are a good human being, you will get lawn care work.
SOUNDS LIKE YOU’RE IN A GREAT MARKET. JUST BE BETTER THAN THE REST.

My Story:

In 2016 I had been in law enforcement for almost 7 years.

I was not in control of my schedule, I was hardly making any money, and I was away from my family working nights and holidays. I was capable of more,, and I was silently suffering. I knew I was selling myself and my family short.

I started Florida Turf Pros as a side hustle in 2016 before going full time in 2017.

My lawn business changed my life. I control my own schedule, my own income, and I am proud of what I have built.

On this channel you will learn the steps I have taken (and am still taking) to have a lawn care business that serves ME and my family’s needs.

We are a small owner operated company (2 full time mowing trucks/crews, and now a sod installation division).

If you are interested in starting a lawn care business this channel will provide the direction.

This really is a great industry to be in…

And I hope that by documenting my journey it will help you too.
