Many RAM 6.7L owners are under the assumption that only trucks in cold climates are susceptible to grid heater bolt failure. Yes, trucks in cold climates do see more use of the grid heater, but frequent grid heater use is not the main culprit. As an example, Chris lives in a beach community thirty miles north of Los Angeles where it rarely drops below 50°F. His grid heater sees very little activity if any. So, why did his grid heater fail, nearly killing his engine? The heater solenoid failed. His grid heater was energized whenever the truck was running. Had he not had a check engine light for a P2609 code, his engine may have swallowed the bolt leading to catastrophic damage.
