Big changes are underway in how food systems are evolving today as the world urbanises, the relationship with our natural environment changes in profound ways and complicates long global supply chains start to appear increasingly vulnerable.

These trends among others are driving big changes in how we provide urban areas with food now and in the coming decades. The traditional relationship between urban and rural - one as a producer the other as a consumer of food - is starting to give way to a much more subtle picture as a spectrum of ways to produce food and distribute it emerges.

In this CoCreation, we will be applying systems innovation ideas and tools to explore and ideate on what an urban food system fit for the challenges of the 21st century might look like. We will discuss the challenge, and map out the key factors affecting the system dynamic before ideating on a high leverage point that could enable the transition towards a more resilient, sustainable, and user-generated food system.

What will Happen
This open innovation session will be run on the online whiteboard called Miro. We will be using our new Si Strategy Game. During the 120 min, we will hear from speakers about the challenge while sharing our insights, experience and thinking on the factors involved in shafting the dynamic.

This game is designed to help us ideate on developing a systems change strategy by mapping out the set of factors surrounding a given issue and trying to find leverage points in the system that may shift the dynamic. We will first define what the challenge is, and then map out the key elements affecting it and how they are interrelated. Around each of these factors, we then look for different places to intervene based on the leverage created and our capacities to effect change.
