This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, the 5-passenger mid-size SUV. The Atlas Cross Sport has a standard 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. There is also an optional 3.6L V6 with 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada, FWD and AWD options available in the US. The VW Atlas Cross Sport is not as big as the Atlas, although the wheelbase and the width of both vehicles are the same, the Cross Sport is 5.2” shorter. There is less rear headroom in the Cross Sport with its sloping roofline and sharp profile, standard 18” wheels, available 20” and 21”. The Cross Sport is a spacious 5-passenger SUV, offering a comfortable drive and lighter steering making it easy to parallel park and manoeuvre in and out of city traffic. Some standard features on the VW Cross Sport include, a 6.5” touchscreen, optional 8”, wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto, optional wireless, an 8” digital instrument cluster, optional 10.25”, cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a manual driver and passenger seat and a spare tire. Features available on the higher trims include, a power tailgate, wireless charger, heated steering wheel, power driver and passenger seat, driver seat memory, leatherette and leather upholstery, navigation, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and a 360-view monitor. For fuel economy, the 2.0T gets 11.6L/100 km, 20 MPG city and 9.7L/100 km, 24 MPG highway. The V6 13.1L/100 km, 18 MPG city and 10L/100 km, 24 MPG highway. The V6 can tow up to 5,000 pounds and the 2.0T 2,000 pounds.
In Canada, the 2.0T starts at $40,895 CAD and the V6 $48,595 CAD. Our test model is the top Execline trim for $57,295 CAD.
In the US, the 2.0T FWD model starts at $33,910 USD, AWD $35,810 USD and the 3.6L V6 FWD $39,830 USD, AWD $47,775 USD. The top SEL Premium R-Line is $51,075 USD.
