Babies can go outside as early as their first day of life. There's really no reason why a baby can't leave the house. In fact, fresh air, outdoors, and light are beneficial for everyone, including your baby and you. However, babies have weak immune systems, so it's important to take a few precautions before leaving the house with your newborn.

In those first few weeks, short neighborhood strolls with your baby in a stroller or safe infant carrier are the perfect activity for you and your baby. Many moms report improved sleep for both themselves and their infants after getting fresh air.

In this video, pediatrician and BabyCenter Medical Advisory Board member Dr. Dawn Rosenberg explains provides reassurance about taking your newborn outside, and what you should avoid with your newborn.
