Hello and welcome to the channel! In this weeks woodworking video I will be making a vase from a beautiful piece of spalted silver birch on the woodturning lathe.
I used a glass insert to hold water for live flowers and finished the piece in a clear acrylic lacquer then polished to a super shiny, glass like finish.

Due to the spalting in the wood there were several super soft areas so I lightly sanded and soaked in sanding sealer to help harden those areas before and off camera sanding session to get everything nice and smooth.

Overall I probably applied 10 coats of lacquer but I didn't film them all and lost count. Sanded with 320 grit before the final coat and then with 400 grit before a Yorkshire Grit abrasive paste polish.

Makers mark applied to the base after removing the tenon and sealed with shellac.
