The new Toyota GR Yaris is a homologation special that’s about as far from the regular Yaris as you can get, with muscular bodywork, a 257bhp engine and adjustable four-wheel drive. It offers rapid acceleration, making it one of the quickest hot hatchbacks on the market, and despite its origins, is comfortable enough to use everyday. But can Toyota’s first real hot hatch in over a decade take on cars like the Ford Fiesta ST and Honda Civic Type R? Nicola Hume puts it to the test to find out.
