Hi folks! In this weeks woodworking project I will be taking a nice piece of cherry wood and making a simple but shiny bowl using the woodturning lathe.

The wood was kindly given to me at the weekend by a friend who had cut and sealed the ends and stored for around 2 years. Thanks Chris!

Before starting I cut away some of the checking off camera, mounted the blank to the lathe on a worm screw to begin rounding the piece and forming a tenon on the base.
Due to the remaining checks and bark, the design changed a few times during the process.

Sanded and sealed with shellac before a Yorkshire Grit abrasive paste polish.

It was then remounted using the tenon, I scooped out the middle of the bowl and followed the same sanding, shellac and paste polish procedure.

I removed the tenon and finished the foot of the bowl using a jam chuck and applied my makers mark to finish.

This woodturning project had around 1hr 40m recorded but I did spend 20 minutes extra off camera tidying and sanding the inside to get it ready for sealing, so all in, approximately 2 hours to complete.
