In this tutorial you'll learn how you can easily integrate data from the CANedge CAN bus data logger with Grafana dashboards. We outline how it works, key features and example use cases.

The CANedge lets you log raw CAN bus data from cars, trucks and machines to an extractable SD card. With the CANedge2, the data can be auto-pushed to your own server/cloud via WiFi/3G/4G access points. This lets you setup e.g. vehicle fleet telematics and predictive maintenance easily. The raw data on your server can be processed via free software and API tools.

In particular, you can use our plug & play Python API script to DBC decode your raw data and push it into an InfluxDB database. From here, the data can be visualized via the popular Grafana dashboard tool - and you can create custom dashboards easily. For example, you can create plots of speed, temperatures, GPS position, fuel level, diagnostic trouble codes and other vital parameters. Dashboard users can easily switch between the connected devices - and decide which parameters to perform detailed analyses on. Further, you can set alerts based on data events for use in e.g. predictive maintenance.

In contrast to most telematics dashboards, there are zero subscription fees - the solution is 100% free. You can either self-host the entire setup or use the free cloud-hosted starter accounts offered by Grafana and InfluxDB. Your dashboards can be easily and securely shared with users in your organisation or towards your customers.
