These could be shoulder pain stretches or just shoulder openers for everybody. Shoulder flexibility is key in yoga and Yin is a great way to restore and maintain shoulder mobility and even help with shoulder pain. Your shoulder joints have a greater range of motion than any other joint in the body. However, with even minor shoulder injuries can lead to adhesions or scar tissue. This can lead to frozen shoulder or varying degrees of shoulder impingement syndrome which limit motion in the glenohumeral joint or even in the muscles around the joint. Here you will be stretching the shoulder muscle and, also, gain more torso mobility.

The strength of our shoulder muscles is important but so are flexibility and mobility.

Yin Yoga is a wonderful way to slow down and open your shoulders. Just that act of a slow-paced stretching series forces us to be in the stillness of the practice. This can, initially, irritate us as we are used to jamming through our day but great gifts await when we switch life into a lower gear. The slow-paced practice of stretching that’s centered around opening the smallest fibers between your joints may even give you a sweet buzz by the end of the series. So, create more elasticity in our joints, help your overall mobility and embrace a little euphoria.

As you move through this yoga sequence for tight shoulders, aim for a level of sensation that creates a sense of manageable discomfort. These postures should never feel painful or alter the smooth cadence of your breath.
