Trestles Beach is the northern part of San Onofre State Beach, San Diego county. The easiest way to access the beach is from San Clemente in Orange County.

San Onofre State Beach was created in 1971 when president Richard Nixon signed a 50 year lease agreement between the US Government and the State of California. Ronald Reagan was the governor at that time. The lease expires in 2021. Most people have no idea, but Trestles beach is in fact part of the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, so Semper Fi to all Marines!

Trestles it is one of the best surf spots in southern California, if not in the continental USA. To get there you have to walk almost a mile. Many surf competitions are held there every year. The beach itself is named after a former wooden trestles train bridge. It was replaced with a concrete viaduct in 2012.
