Growing old gracefully is something rock stars don't do.

But the rest of us would probably get weird looks if we decided to carry on the same way as we did when we were young and fancy free.

There are some things you can do that will help you as you grow old (even if you never thought you'd be on this planet this long)

0:45 Start by taking pride in your appearance. Just because you're older there's no need to look like a tramp. Brushing your hair (or shaving your head if there's not much hair left) is a good start.

And wearing clothes that don't look like they've jumped forwards from the 1960's isn't a bad idea either.

3:06 Learning to relax is another excellent idea. It's easy to un-learn how to relax as we get older.

It seems like everything is telling us that we shouldn't.

But re-learning how to relax is an excellent tool to help you to grow old more gracefully.

5:33 Adjust your attitude.

Your outlook on life has a large bearing on how you're perceived by other people.

So if you're playing the part of a grumpy old man or woman, that won't help other people's perception of you and they're likely to think that you're not grateful for the life you've lived.

7:40 Travel more

You've got the time on your hands.

You can almost certainly afford it.

Get to those places you've always wanted to visit while you're still in a condition where you can do that.

9:48 Look after your health

Your health is important and it's never too late to start looking after it a bit more.

Some things are worth giving up - cigarettes for instance unless you get more than a guilty pleasure from them.

Other things are worth cutting down - a few less medicinal glasses for instance.

And other things are worth enjoying yourself - eating foods your grandparents would have cooked even if the new fangled food pyramid says otherwise (you're old enough to know governments don't always know best)

Food makes a lot of difference whatever age we are.

12:17 Keep your mind healthy

If your mind stays active, even if your body isn't quite as fit as it used to be, life can be good.

Older people are often the source of information - all that stuff that never quite made it to the history books but that people find interesting.

And there are lots of things like online games and puzzles that you can play on your own if you're feeling anti-social or against others if you're still up to the challenge.

They'll all help keep your mind alive and help you stay graceful as the years pile on.

14:23 Use hypnosis to help you grow old gracefully

Hypnosis is easy to use and works very well.

It's also cheap - buying a few tracks to listen to won't break the bank.
